CITY OF RICHFIELD, MINNESOTA
Office of Executive Director
HRA Letter No. 14
Agenda June 9 , 19 75
Housing and Redevelopment
Authority Commissioners
City of Richfield
Gentlemen:
Subject: Section 8 Leased Housing Application
The Department of Housing and Urban Development has announced that it
is now ready to accept applications for Section 8 leased housing. Based on
prior authorization from the Housing and Redevelopment Authority, the city
staff has been working with the Metropolitan Council in the preparation of a
joint application for such housing. The Metropolitan Council HRA will be filing
such a joint application on behalf of Richfield and twelve other participating
municipalities.
The application to be submitted by the Metropolitan Council HRA will be for
a total of 500 leased housing units. The application provides for the City of
Richfield to receive 52 such units. However, this is still an approximate figure
since it is not definitely known at this time whether all 500 units will be granted
to the Metropolitan Council HRA by the Department of Housing and Urban Devel-
opment. Therefore, it is possible that the number of units received by the City
of Richfield could be less. On the other hand, if all 500 units are granted and
some of the participating municipalities do not use all units allocated to their
agency, then it is possible that the City of Richfield could receive more than the
52 units.
It is recommended that the Housing and Redevelopment Authority pass a motion
indicating its support of the Metropolitan Council's HRA application for the S00
Section 8 leased housing units so that documentation of this support can be sub-
mitted along with the application.
Respectfully submitted,
Wayne S. Burggraaff
