I. CALL TO ORDER
The meeting was called to order by President Fletcher at 8:00 a.m.
II. APPROVAL OF MINUTES OF THE ANNUAL CIVIL SERVICE COMMISSION MEETING OF
OCTOBER 10, 2017.
M/Fletcher, S/Hurvitz to approve the minutes.
Motion carried 2-0.
III. CERTIFICATION OF THE ELIGIBILITY ROSTER FOR THE POSITION OF FIREFIGHTER
Fire Chief Kewitsch gave a brief overview of the applications; there were 98 applications and
16 are on the roster. He believes the process went very well and almost half of the department
was involved in the process. There will be no immediate hiring but more than likely this time
next year.
Vice President Hurvitz asked of the firefighters present how they thought the process had gone.
Firefighter Josh Nelson agreed with Fire Chief Kewitsch that they were very involved with the
process and felt that the process was fair.
M/Hurvitz, S/Fletcher to approve the certification of the eligibility roster for the position of
firefighter.
Motion carried 2-0.
IV. APPROVAL OF LIEUTENANT PROCESS MODIFIED SCORING MATRIX TO
ACCOMMODATE VETERAN'S PREFERENCE
Fire Chief Kewitsch explained that the.previous scoring matrix was approved without veteran's
preference and that an applicant during the last process wanted to use his veteran's preference
and changes had to be made to the matrix to accommodate. Kewitsch stated that going
forward there will always be veteran's preference on scoring matrices.
M/Hurvitz, S/Fletcher to approve the lieutenant process modified scoring matrix to
accommodate veteran's preference.
Motion carried 2-0.
V. OTHER BUSINESS
Next meeting will be the state-mandated meeting on the first Monday of February 2018.
Vice President Hurvitz thanked President Fletcher for her service on the commission as this will
be her last meeting. President Fletcher said that she loved serving on this commission and
hopes the best for all.
Vice President Hurvitz also wished happy holidays to all.
VI. ADJOURNMENT
The Civil Service Commission Meeting was adjourned by unanimous consent at 8:04 a.m.
