DEVICH 8/10/2016 ITEM FOR COUNCIL CONSIDERATION: Consideration of a resolution determining the results of the City Primary Election held on Tuesday, August 9, 2016. EXECUTIVE SUMMARY: The City Primary Election was conducted on Tuesday, August 9, 2016. The City of Richfield Ward III City Council Member was on the primary ballot because more than two individuals filed for that office. The Richfield City Charter states that the City Council shall meet and canvass the election returns at the next regular or special City Council meeting immediately following any regular, primary or special election, but in no event, later than the Monday next following, and shall make full declaration of the results as soon as possible, and file a statement thereof with the City Clerk. RECOMMENDED ACTION: By motion: Adopt the resolution determining the results of the City Primary Election held on Tuesday, August 9, 2016. BASIS OF RECOMMENDATION: A. HISTORICAL CONTEXT • Historical Context is contained in the Executive Summary. B. POLICIES (resolutions. ordinances. reaulations. statutes. etc): • The City Charter provides that the City Council declare the results of the election. C. CRITICAL TIMING ISSUES: • The City Council must take action no later than Monday, August 15, 2016. • Council Members are available to canvass the election on Friday, August 12, 2016. D. FINANCIAL IMPACT: • N/A E. LEGAL CONSIDERATION: • City Charter Section 4.07 provides that the City Council declare the results of the election. ATTACHMENTS: Description ❑ Resolution Type Resolution Letter Ward 3 results Backup Material RESOLUTION NO. 11224 RESOLUTION DETERMINING RESULTS OF THE PRIMARY ELECTION OF THE CITY OF RICHFIELD HELD ON TUESDAY, AUGUST 9, 2016 BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Richfield that the Council, having received and considered the tally of votes by the election judges of the Primary Election held August 9, 2016, the results are determined to be as follows: Votes cast for Council Member Ward III: Four Year Term Maria Regan Gonzalez 318 votes James Haag 79 votes Lisa Rudolph 294 votes Total number of voters in this election: 2373 Attached Attachment A is complete tabulation of results. Maria Regan Gonzalez and Lisa Rudolph are nominated to have their names placed on the General Election ballot.
