Issue Statement:
Consideration of a resolution determining results of the City Primary Election held on
Tuesday, September 15, 1998.
Background:
The City Primary Election was conducted on Tuesday, September 15, 1998 on the
Primary Election ballot. The City of Richfield office of Mayor was on the ballot.
The Richfield City Charter states that the Council shall meet and canvass the election
returns and shall make full declaration of the results as soon as possible, and file a
statement thereof with the City Clerk. Minnesota Statutes state that within two days
after an election, the governing body shall canvass the returns and declare the results
of the election.
A resolution containing the results of the September 15, 1998 Primary Election will be
presented to the City Council at the September 17, 1998 Special City Council meeting.
Recommended Motion:
Approve the resolution determining the results of the City Primary Election held on
Tuesday, September 15, 1998.
Basis for Recommendation:
1. The election judges have certified the returns of the election.
2. The City Charter provides that the City Council declare the results of the election.
3. A Special City Council meeting has been scheduled to canvass the election results.
Alternative Recommendation:
None.
Discussion/Decision Mode:
This matter has been scheduled for consideration at the September 17, 1998 Special
City Council Meeting.

RESOLUTION DETERMINING RESULTS OF THE PRIMARY ELECTION
OF THE CITY OF RICHFIELD HELD ON TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 15, 1998
BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Richfield that the council,
having received and considered the tally of votes by the election judges of the Primary
Election held September 15, 1998, the results are determined to be as follows:
Votes cast for Mayor - Four Year Term: Ronald M. Glaub 946
Paul E. Hansen 1111
Marty Kirsch 3127
Total number of voters in this election: 5919
Attached Appendix A is complete tabulation of results.
Paul E. Hansen and Marty Kirsch are nominated to have their names placed on
the General Election ballot.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the following list of judges were those
certifying returns of said election:
