E CITY OF RICHFIELD, MINNESOTA Council Letter No. 276 Agenda November 5, 1998 Issue Statement: Consideration of a resolution determining results of the City General Election held on Tuesday, November 3, 1998. Background: The City General Election was conducted on Tuesday, November 3, 1998 on the General Election ballot. The City of Richfield offices of Mayor and Council Member at Large were on the ballot. The Richfield City Charter states that the Council shall meet and canvass the election returns and shall make full declaration of the results as soon as possible, and file a statement thereof with the City Clerk. Minnesota Statutes state that within two days after an election, the governing body shall canvass the returns and declare the results of the election. A resolution containing the results of the November 3, 1998 election will be presented to the City Council at the November 5, 1998 Special City Council Meeting. Recommended Motion: Approve the resolution determining the results of the City General Election held on Tuesday, November 3, 1998. 46 Basis of Recommendation: 1. The election judges have certified the returns of the election. 2. The City Charter provides that the City Council declare the results of the election. 3. A Special City Council Meeting has been scheduled to canvass the election results. Alternative Recommendation: None.
