Subject: Taproom Ordinance
(Worksession Agenda No. 1)
Council Members and Commissioners:
In the past few years, taprooms and small-scale brewery businesses have proliferated
in the Minneapolis-St. Paul metropolitan area. The City has had two serious inquiries
into the possibility of opening this type of business. In keeping with the Council goal of
exploring opportunities for light-industrial uses and the City's desire to continue to offer
meaningful opportunities for small businesses, City staff has been exploring the
changes necessary to allow micro-production facilities, taprooms, and tasting rooms.
On Monday, July 27th at 6:00 p.m., staff from both Community Development and
Business Licensing/Public Safety, as well as consultant Addison Lewis of WSB and
Associates, will facilitate a discussion of options for policy makers to consider.
