The meeting was called to order by Mayor Goettel at 5:33 p.m.

DISCUSSION OF COMMUNITY SURVEY RESULTS
Don Lifto, Springsted, Inc., made a presentation (City Clerk File No. C-433) regarding the
recently conducted community survey results. He reviewed the key findings of the survey, including
survey basics; direction; uniqueness; change; maintaining neighborhoods; satisfaction; clean up day
awareness; park and recreation facilities; potential for trail use, future programs and services;
potential wireless use; safety at home; Penn Avenue, HUB and Lyndale districts concerns; public
transportation; human services; cable television; internet access, new residents' questions,
observations and conclusions; and communications. He also stated the "other" responses indicated
in the survey will be provided in detail by the Center for Community Opinion, which assisted in the
compiling the detailed survey results workbook provided to the City Council.
Mr. Lifto reported that there is a high degree of overall satisfaction with the living experience in
Richfield. The two factors that could impact the survey response in the park and recreation section
are parent status and age.
Council Member Wroge added that the type of sports a family is involved with may be another
factor.
Council Member Kilian stated that there could be different responses in different wards of the
City.

Mr. Lifto explained the age demographics of the survey. He added that he would provide
additional information of how that compares with the census data.
Council Member Kilian asked if questions are asked again to see if the same answer is given.
Mr. Lifto stated a more in-depth survey could be done or focus groups with residents could be
conducted as follow-up to the survey.
