RESOLUTION APPROVING THE GRANT WITH THE U.S. DEPARTMENT OF
JUSTICE, OFFICE OF JUSTICE PROGRAMS AND RICHFIELD POLICE FOR
BULLETPROOF VESTS
WHEREAS, officer line-of-duty deaths increased by 37% in 2010 and 59 of the
160 officers killed that year were shot during violent encounters; and,
WHEREAS, the U.S. Department of Justice is committed to improving officer
safety and has undertaken research to review and analyze violent encounters and law
enforcement officer deaths and injuries; and
WHEREAS, the Bulletproof Vest Partnership (BVP) was created by the
Bulletproof Vest Partnership Grant Act of 1998 and is a unique U.S. Department of
Justice initiative designed to provide a critical resource to state and local law
enforcement; and,
WHEREAS, Richfield Department of Public Safety has been informed that a
grant has been awarded to the department by the U.S. Department of Justice, Office of
Justice Programs under their Bulletproof Vest Partnership (BVP) program, for $2,656.63
for the purchase of ballistic vests; and,
WHEREAS, the BVP grant is under the Fiscal Year 2013 BVP awards, allowing
purchases beginning on or after April 1, 2013 until August 31, 2015, or until all available
2013 award funds have been requested.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of
Richfield, Minnesota, that the Public Safety Department and the Deputy Director of
Public Safety will enter into an agreement to receive grant money for Richfield's
bulletproof vest expenditures as outlined in the agreement.
Adopted by the City Council of the City of Richfield, Minnesota this 22nd day of
October 2013.
