minutes 2011 Richfield Friendship City Commission Minutes January 4, 2011 The meeting was called to order at 7:00 p.m. by Chair Roger Swanson. In att�ndance were Molly Olson, Craig Osten, Roger Swanson, Mary Supple, and Cynthy Mandl by telephone. Dave Delzer had an excused absence. Frank Sitko was also not in attendance. The minutes of both the November 18 and November 30, 2011, meetings were approved. Treasurer Craig Osten reported a balance of$2,420.83 before the latest round of trip deposits were made. The treasurer's report was received and filed. Roger, Cynthy, and Craig reported on trip preparations. We have deposits from 12 people. Eleven will be travelling from the Twin Cities. Tickets will be purchased on January 10. Travelers have the option of purchasing trip insurance. A motion was made, seconded , and passed to spend up to $600 for gifts. At the moment, we already have 24 pair of soccer shoes, two walkers, and a wheelchair to deliver to Costa Rica. The next two meetings have been moved from their regular nights to accommodate the trip. We will be meeting on February 10 and March 24. Respectfully submitted, Mary Supple, Secretary Richfield Friendship City Commission Minutes February 10, 2011 The meeting was called to order at 7:OOpm by Chair Roger Swanson. Present were Cynthy Mandl, Dave Delzer, Roger Swanson, Craig Osten, and Molly Olson. Special guest Linda was also present. Frank Sitko has resigned. Mary Supple did not renew her term. The minutes of the January 4�h meeting were approved. The treasurer's report was $14,293.58 as of February 8�'. This includes the full payment of all travelers, minus some travel expenses yet to be paid. There are quite a few Commission vacancies. There is discussion to publicize this to the people living in the Grammercy Co-op who have been quite supportive with donations. There is also a plan to ask trip members. Two people can live outside Richfield and still serve on the commission. There was also an agreement to take people off administrative status on the Facebook group when they leave the commission. There has been discussion on what to bring as gifts to the Adult daycare center, children's library, and soccer players. The daycare center will receive donated sweaters and medical equipment from North Memorial Hospital, as well as other medical equipment purchased from Novacare. The commission already has two walkers to bring, and the wheelchair has already been brought down. A motion was made to purchase a digital camera and computer software for the children's library. The commission has already bought 24 pairs of soccer shoes. There is discussion of naming a park in a new Heredia neighborhood, Richfield Park. There is also an invitation to tour a biodegradable coffin company. The next meeting is scheduled after the trip,March 24�'. Respectfully submitted, Molly Olson Richfield Friendship City Commission Minutes March 24, 2011 The meeting was called to order at 7:OOpm by chair Roger Swanson. In attendance was Dave Delzer, Craig Osten, Cynthy Mandl, Molly Olson, and Andrew Berg. Linda was also present. We welcomed our newest member Andrew Berg, a new resident of Richfield. The minutes of February lOth were approved as revised. The treasurer's report was $4,641.12 including the trip deductions. The total donations that were taken to Costa Rica was $423.65. Thank you to North Memorial, Fairview Southdale, Gramercy Co-op, and Centennial Commission for extra donations. Letters will be sent to trip participants and the organizations that helped with andlor gave donations. The commission will be donating extra sweaters locally and also has another wheelchair to be donated to the lions club. Some other requests that were mentioned during the trip were a Red Cross defibulator and ambulance. There is possibility of a Sun Current article about the trip. While on the trip they met with a sculptor who created the Alianza sculpture on Lyndale and 66th St. He is creating another sculpture for us. Richfield Park is in its planning stages and more information is to follow. The next meeting is Apri121 St Respectfully submitted, Molly Olson Richfield Friendship City Commission Meeting Minutes April 22, 2010 The meeting was called to order by Chair Roger Swanson. In attendance were commission members Roger Swanson, Craig Osten, Dave Delzer, and Mary Supple, and guests Stacey Osten and Cynthy Mandl. Excused absences were reported for Frank Sitko, Tracy Hollenback, and Molly Olson. The March 18, 2010, minutes were approved. The treasurer reported that we have a balance of$3,710.45 with no activity other than interest. Craig and Stacey Osten reported on their weeklong trip to Heredia. They stayed with Olga Solis Soto who visited Richfield on the last trip. Discussion of a Facebook page and the inventory at the garage were postponed until May. Craig filled us in on the penpal project. He is in contact with a teacher in Heredia and has been working with Molly on an application form. Cynthy updated the group on plans for a March 3-14, 2011, trip to Heredia. The old on- line information needs to be updated. Prices are not guaranteed until ticketing, but seem to be running in the mid $800 range. Because of increased costs, Cynthy is planning the same activities with fewer hotel nights. The proposed cost is $1,899 at this time. The lapel pins from a previous trip have been located. A motion passed to spend up to $150 framing the ceremonial parchment that was found in storage. We will report to the City Council on October 12. Our next meeting is May 20, 2010. The meeting was adjourned. Respectfully submitted, Mary Supple, Secretary Richfield Friendship City Commission Minutes May 19, 2011 The meeting was called to order at 7pm by chair Roger Swanson. In attendance was Roger Swanson, Dave Delzer, Craig Osten, Cynthy Mandl, Andrew Berg, and Molly Olson. Also in attendance was Shelah Driver. We welcomed Shelah Driver who is interested in becoming a member. She studied in Costa Rica for a semester. The minutes of March 24th were approved as revised. There was no April meeting. The treasurer's report as of Apri129th was $4,220.30. The new sculpture will be donated, but we are unsure of the transport of it. So far there has not been an article on the trip. There is no news on the plaque to be made for Heredia Park. The Commission was given a painted oxcart from the adult daycare center. There was an earthquake in Costa Rica. Fortunately there was no significant damage or injuries. Molly will keep up the maintenance of the Facebook group page. Andrew is looking into applying for a donated defibulator. The medium conference room in the new city hall will be named the Heredia Room. We will have a permanent display case. If it is small we will have a rotating display. We need to find a new permanent storage area. All meetings must be done by 9pm in the new city hall. The commission is planning on attending Cattail days and is looking at dates for an open house. Craig will be absent at the next meeting. The next meeting will be June 16th at the new city hall. In attendance were Roger Swanson, Dave Delzer, Cynthy Mandl, Andrew Berg, and Molly Olson. Craig Osten had an excused absence. The minutes of May 19th were approved. The treasurer's report stayed the same at$4,220.30. Roger will look into the status of the garden where the new sculpture may be located. There is no other news about the sculpture or plaque. The city will tell us which display case is ours and when we will be able to have access to it. Commission member Christine Kargel has been removed from the commission roster at her request. The Friendship City Commission is looking to hold an open house during the city municipal building dedication or on the 15t" of September. A delegation from Costa Rica may come for the re-dedication of the Heredia Park behind the city building. Depending on dates we may also take part in Cattail Days. Molly will look for a Spanish version of the Americans with Disabilities Act. Andrew will look into the paperwork for the defibulator and Cynthy will find out what model would work best. It is agreed that we will start using the facebook group more. We will upload photographs from the recent trip. We may also find links to other news stories. The next meeting will be July 21St Respectfully Submitted, Molly Olson Richfield Friendship City Commission Minutes July 21, 2011 The meeting was called to order at 7pm by chair Roger Swanson. In attendance were Roger Swanson, Dave Delzer, Craig Osten, Cynthy Mandl, and Molly Olson. Andrew Burg has moved to South Dakota so he will not be able to attend meetings. The June minutes were approved. As of June 30th the treasurer's report was $4,222.81. We have the display case behind the Oxcart. There is only space for flat pieces. There is a need to look into more secure storage for our items. Frank still has the archives and agreed to keep them until we find a new place to store them. An open house is being considered for late October or early November,when the City Municipal Building holds its open house. The status of Cattail Days is unknown. Craig will contact Shayla Driver on becoming an official member. Cynthy will look into where the sculpture will be placed at city hall. Members of the commission have agreed to upload pictures of Costa Rica trip onto our Facebook page. The Commission has its annual report to the city council in October. Craig will not be able to attend the August meeting. In attendance were Roger Swanson, Dave Delzer, Cynthy Mandl, Molly Olson and guest Linda Delzer. Craig Osten was excused. The July minutes were approved. As of July 29th the treasurer's report was $4,222.98. We noticed upon arriving at the Municipal building that the ox cart was in the hallway and the base and cover were missing. Roger will inquire as to the where a bouts of these items. We talked about the inquiry from Richfield Methodist Church about student commission members. Cattail Days—a car show with no crafters was discussed and was determined we would pass on evolvement this year since Bloomington has started an annual event the same week-end as Cattail Days. We will opt for an Open house instead. Facebook pictures will be added to the commission Facebook page at regular times. The up- loading procedures were shared within the commission. Our commission will report to the city council on October. Next meeting is scheduled for September 15, 2011 The meeting ended with cake and well wishes for Molly and the start of her college experience.
